I recently attended the third annual San Diego Pain Summit (I've been to all three!) and was fortunate to be the patient demo for Peter O'Sullivan's Cognitive Functional Therapy workshop.
Certainly, would love to share my thoughts, shall I add them here or is there a better way? I've shared your writings with a few people I'm working with, as no matter how much I try I'll never be as authentic as someone with actual lived experiences to talk about.
That'd be wonderful! I'm sending you an email right now so you'll have mine. Share your thoughts there or here, either way is good by me!
Thanks for sharing my writings with others. I've come to understand that we can learn something universal through people's unique stories. And the more stories we learn from, the more we can understand pain, and people.
So helpful to read this perspective. I love Peter O'Sullivan and am doing a three day course with him next month. I'm a UK osteopath and have only just come across your writing recently and love reading what you think and feel. It's so important for me as someone who try's to help people to better understand how what I do is interpreted and the aspects most valuable. I'm fully aware my empathy is limited by the fact that I don't have persistence pain.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this message! And thanks also for your support with your subscription, it means so much.
Pete has had such a great and lasting influence on me, I'm so grateful I got to be the patient demo at the Pain Summit! As I'm sure you read, I was over seven years into chronic hip pain when I met him and thought I knew so much. It was so helpful having a trusted guide to help me work through some of the stories I was telling myself about my pain and what was going on (those damage narratives can be so dang persuasive!) and what I could do. Him listening so intently to me, and the movement experiments, are things I will never ever forget.
Enjoy the workshop next month! I'd love to hear your thoughts when you're through, if your inclined to share them!
Thanks again for your kind words and support. It keeps me going!
